Categories and tags – comparison:
Categories and tags are commonly heard words in internet. They have close association in the context of a web page. But there are differences between the two. Each of them has a different purpose and a different use. The uses of tags or categories can be made only after understanding the clear difference between the two.
Tags are mainly used when you feel that the article you have written needs more number of descriptions. They are used to give descriptions that are closely related, but in different contexts. But categories are used to divide content into various headings. The closely related data are grouped under a different heading. This heading can be used as a link to another internal page. Thus different internal pages can be connected through these categories.
Tags are mostly one word descriptions of a particular topic. The description can be used to mention about any specific case of that article. But categories are just names that are having data associated with it. Tags are usually written after the article is written. But categories are written before the content of the article is written. All categories can be generally called as tags, but all tags cannot be categories.
But when used in the context of page ranking and search engine optimization, categories can bring in more traffic. But at the same time, tags don’t have much to do with page ranking. This is why blogs and other important website contents use categories on a larger scale and contribute special care in organizing categories.
